For example, cast members may play card games with audience members, only to be interrupted by action based on a scene from Macbeth.Īs audiences are exploring a haunted and mysterious hotel, the layout is dark, smoky, and forms a wonderfully disorienting labyrinth, accompanied by just the right amount of salt to keep evil away. ![]() At certain points, cast members may pull individual audience members into back rooms for intense individual “one-on-one experiences.” Other audience members may find themselves stuck in the middle of a scene, set in rooms that were previously empty, and explored by audience members standalone at other points in the evening. Everyone chooses his or her own path: some decide to follow a certain character in the hopes of tracking a storyline from point A-Z throughout the evening, while others explore rooms or floors (including incredibly intricate streets, shops, offices, bedrooms, ballrooms, and other mysterious locations). Even more impressive is the incredible attention to detail covered in the design: envelopes open up to reveal carefully crafted letters, upon opening dressers, we find codes or passages of quoted text from the play, closets open up and showcase false walls containing hidden pathways, and that’s just scraping the surface.Īudiences are split up, required to wear a mask a la commedia dell’arte, and forbidden from speaking.
